Shelburne Museum pulls the plug on Furthur show

Shelburne, Vermont - June 25, 2010

The Shelburne Museum pulled the plug on a concert that's just 10 days away.

The Furthur Tour features former members of the Grateful Dead. They were scheduled to perform July 5, but the concert was canceled. The band's website said it was due to concerns by local and state authorities.

But both Vermont State Police and the town of Shelburne said they had nothing to do with the cancellation.

Late this afternoon, the Shelburne Museum said it pulled the plug on the show, but cast the blame on concert organizer Higher Ground. The museum said it was forced to cancel the show because it did not get an adequate security plan from the organizers. We have no official comment from Higher Ground.

Among the concerns was an influx of ticketless fans-- as happened at the 1995 Grateful Dead show in Highgate. There were also concerns about traffic problems on Route 7. You might remember the Phish farewell show in Coventry six years ago when hundreds of fans abandoned cars along the interstate.

People who bought tickets can get their money back, but the service fees are not refundable.

The Furthur Tour has scheduled a new show on July 5th in Stroudsburg, Penn.
